Bruce Templeton, Santa’s Assistant
St. John’s/North Pole
It’s a long flight to the North Pole, but Bruce Templeton is used to the commute. For the past 40 years, Bruce has been Santa’s Assistant (and a dear friend of the man in the big red suit). What does Santa’s Assistant do, you might ask? He feeds the reindeer, gets the elves the workshop supplies they need, and helps Santa plan his travels and visits, bringing joy to children around the world every Christmas morning. Here at home, he’s gotten Santa to lend a hand at the Janeway Children’s Hospital, visit seniors’ homes, and attend every Downtown St. John’s Christmas Parade for decades. The job, for Bruce, is about being present — not the presents under the tree — and embodying the spirit of the season every day of the year.
